Interviewing for a post-graduation engineering position will typically involve an on-site interview. The interview begins the moment you arrive or meet a representative to take you to the site until you leave. Be polite to everyone no matter where you meet them (in the parking lot, reception area, etc.). Make sure your appearance and the appearance of your belongings maintain the image you are trying to create for employers (ex. interior of car, purse, etc.). You never know who will be in your interview or part of the decision-making process.  The format for on-site interviews varies but often involves the following:

  • One-on-one meetings with several key players/decision makers
  • Group meetings with the selection committee, coworkers and collaborators
  • A formal job candidate seminar
  • Informal interactions including meals
