Year-Round Programs for K-12
Iowa State STEM Programs
WiSE Student Role Model Program is a program that employs the women in WiSE to visit classrooms across the state of Iowa to showcase STEM-related activities to the kids in the classroom. It’s a way to encourage the pursuit of STEM fields in college and share experiences. Age ranges are K-12 and dates are typically during the Iowa State academic school year, but requests can be made for break time visits as well.
WiSE Go Further is a program that encourages students in grade 8 through grade 10 to learn about the opportunities offered with STEM and its related fields. The students are given the opportunity to connect with STEM role models as well.
CyMath-Kids is a math program led by Iowa State University’s Dr. Namrata Vaswani and Dr. Xuan Hien Nguyen to give the kids the opportunity to experience and learn about mathematics and see the “beauty” in math.
A science and technology fair held every year for high school and middle school students to showcase the state of Iowa’s 4-H research groups. Youth have an opportunity to present to STEM professionals and researchers.
A 12-month immersive program for Iowa youth in grades 8-11 that focuses on college and career pathways. It strives to engage marginalized youth in research-based education and providing hands-on development training to prepare youth for long term success.
For over 100 years, Iowa 4-H Youth Development has been delivering research-based educational programs for K-12 youth in Iowa. Using the experiential model of “do, reflect, apply,” 4-H programs help young people explore life skills and potential college and career opportunities though research-based learning experiences in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Communication and the Arts, Healthy Living, Leadership and Civic Engagement, and STEM.
Several County Extension and Outreach offices around Iowa offer addition STEM programming for youth. Check with your county office for the latest offerings.
