Ben Althoff

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering

Ben is from La Motte, Iowa. He is a member of the ISU Honors Program. In addition to his studies he works part time. Following graduation he hopes to pursue a career in a large manufacturing company helping to find better and more efficient ways to make products which will help make the world a better place in which to live.

Todd Anderson-Calderon

Chemical and Biological Engineering

Todd is from Oskaloosa, Iowa. He is a member of the ISU Honors Program. In addition to his engineering studies he is pursuing a minor in economics and courses related to global sustainability and international development. He is Secretary of the ISU chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World and Sustainability Officer of Schaefer House. He hopes to work for a company associated with the application of technology to global problem solving.

Alex Avendano

Mechanical Engineering

Alex is from Carolina Puerto Rico. In addition to his engineering studies he is Secretary of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers & Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists. He has undertaken undergraduate research on micro-cantilever sensors and was selected for a summer research internship at Princeton University. He is also active community service activities through his fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi.

Fabian Briesmoore

Electrical and Computer Engineering

Fabian is from Davenport, Iowa. He is a Multicultural Vision Scholar having been born in Ecuador and adopted when he was 6 years old. In addition to his engineering studies he is pursuing a minor in Spanish. He participates in the ISU Crew Club and serves as the Recycling Chair for Stanton House.

Michelle Brus

Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering

Michelle is from Walcott, Iowa. She is a member of the ISU Honors Program. She grew up on a farm and following graduation she hopes to be involved in improving food and water systems in developing countries.

Katelyn Dahlke

Chemical and Biological Engineering

Katelyn is from Kearney. Nebraska. She is a member of the ISU Honors Program. She is Treasurer of the Freshmen Leaders in Engineering and helped design and construct the College of Engineering float for the VEISHEA Parade. She is also Publicity Co-chair for ISU Engineers’ Week.

Michael Donlin

Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

Michael is from Ottumwa, Iowa. He is a member of the ISU student chapter of the National Association of Home Builders and the Design Build Institute of America. Upon graduation he hopes to become a entrepreneur or construction engineer specializing in community development.

Justin Edl

Aerospace Engineering

Justin is from Solon, Iowa. He is a member of the ISU Honors Program. He is also a member of The Engineering Ambassador and Mentor Program (TEAM). After graduation he hopes to work in the aerospace or commercial airplane industry, preferably with the Boeing company.

Jason Herbers

Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering

Justin is from New Vienna, Iowa. He is planning to special in the area of Advanced Machinery Engineering and Manufacturing and hopes to work for an agricultural machinery manufacturing company following graduation.

Danielle Kimler

Electrical and Computer Engineering

Danielle is from Davenport, Iowa. She is member of the Freshmen Leaders in Engineering where she serves on the Events Committee. She is also on the Eaton Hall Council serving as Recycling Chair. As a summer intern at the Exelon Corporation nuclear power generation facility in Illinois she hopes to gain real-world experience in electrical power generation systems. Upon graduation she hopes to work in the energy field developing cleaner, greener, power sources to help satisfy global energy demand.

Kate Klavon

Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering

Kate is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She plans to specialize in biological systems engineering and wants to pursue a career in improving soil quality. She is also interested in joining the Peace Corps and working to improve agricultural techniques in developing countries. She is a member of the student chapter of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. She is a Cyclone Aide helping acquaint new students and their families with the university and during the summer will work with New Student Programs to facilitate freshman orientation and the Destination Iowa State program.

Alex Knee

Mechanical Engineering

Alex is from Urbandale, Iowa. His particular interest is in the design, development and testing of new products, processes and solutions. He is hoping to gain experience through internships and participation in coop programs.

August (Jude) Larenzie

Chemical and Biological Engineering

Jude is from Afton, Minnesota. He is an officer in his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon and served and an aide for Greek Week activities. He is also a member of The Engineering Ambassador and Mentor Program (TEAM). He hopes to combine his study of engineering with an interest in medicine and may attend medical school following graduation or pursue a career which involves both engineering and medicine.

Thomas McGee

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering

Thomas is from Bettendorf, Iowa. He is undertaking research in the wind energy laboratory and works at the Knoll. After graduation he hopes to work in industry for a time and then return to school for a graduate degree in business or to study for a PhD degree leading to a career in teaching Industrial Engineering.

Jennifer Nixon

Mechanical Engineering

Jennifer is from Buffalo Grove, Illinois. She is Treasurer of Rowe House and a member of the Freshmen Leaders in Engineering. Upon graduation she is would like to work in the field of prosthetic design and possibly pursue an advanced engineering degree.

Alexandra Olsen

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering

Alexandra is from Olathe, Kansas. She is a member of the ISU Honors Program. She is an member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and involved in Dance Marathon and the Institute of Industrial Engineers. Following graduation she hopes to pursue a career of service to others, possibly through working for a non-profit organization.

Nicholas Orlowsky

Mechanical Engineering

Nicholas is from Minnetonka, Minnesota. He is a member of the ISU Honors Program. He has undertaken undergraduate research and presented his study of Manufacturing and Testing of Medal Composites at ISU Undergraduate Research Symposium. Upon graduation he hopes to gain some engineering experience and then pursue a higher level engineering degree.

Grant Riesberg

Electrical and Computer Engineering

Grant is from Johnston, Iowa. He is a member of the ISU Honors Program. Grant has a passion for both engineering and medicine and plans to complement his electrical engineering major with a minor in biology and chemistry. He is hoping to eventually pursue a career in medicine.

Anthony Schimek

Engineering Undeclared

Anthony is from Le Mars, Iowa. While currently undecided as to a major he is leaning toward studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Rehman Shahzad

Aerospace Engineering

Rehman is from Pakistan. He is member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He is active as Volunteer Coordinator for International Student Council and as the Treasurer of the Pakistan Student Association. He also helped organize the VEISHEA International Food Fair. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, he is interested in a career in the commercial aircraft industry as well as pursuing an advanced engineering degree.

Sarah Weems

Aerospace Engineering

Sarah is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is a member of the ISU Honors Program. In addition to her engineering studies she is a member of the Iowa State University Symphony and taking private cello lessons. She is Treasurer of the Iowa State Space Society and a member of the Freshman Leaders in Engineering and the Women in Science and Engineering. She helped plan the Iowa State’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of human spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin and helped in the construction of the College of Engineering float for VEISHEA. Following graduation she hopes to pursue an advance engineering degree and then work for NASA to help design and build spacecraft to further research of outer space.

Natalie Williams

Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

Natalie is from Omaha, Nebraska. In addition to her engineering studies she is a Community Advisor for Rothacker House in Wilson Hall. She plans to focus on environmental engineering within her major and after earning her degree she hopes to go abroad and help develop and implement water systems in areas lacking adequate access to water.

Ning Zhang

Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

Ning is from, Dengfeng City, Henan, China. He is a member of the ISU Honors Program.

Landi Zhong

Materials Science and Engineering

Landi is from Chengdu, Sichuan, China. She plans to become involved in leadership activities and participate in internships and other work experience in materials science as an undergraduate. Upon graduation she hopes to continue studies for advanced engineering degree before pursuing a career in industry.
