Ludovico Cademartiri and Kara Lind are building controlled environments with transparent LEGO bricks to study how variations in climate and soil affect plant growth. LEGO bricks "are highly convenient and versatile building blocks" for the studies, the materials science and engineering researchers report in a paper just published in the peer-reviewed, online journal PLOS ONE.
