Accreditation

The College of Engineering strives to offer and continuously improve state-of-the art learning opportunities for its students.  Accreditation is part of this process.  Accreditation provides an external evaluation of the quality of our degree programs.

Ten of our 12 engineering degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org/.  Iowa State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Two relatively new programs (Biological Systems Engineering and Software Engineering) are being reviewed for ABET accreditation in 2012-2013.  The other ten programs are being reviewed at the same time for re-accreditation.  All ABET accredited programs undergo review every six years.

In order for students or graduates to take the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, the first step towards professional licensure, they must be in or have graduated from an ABET accredited program.
