What makes you most excited to join the Cyclone Engineering community here at Iowa State?
I am very excited to meet new (new-to-ISU and new-to-me) students, and to mentor and teach them. I am also excited for our department’s new space in the Therkildsen Industrial Engineering building!
How do you hope your teaching and/or research discoveries impact the world?
I hope my teaching equips students to be ethical and thoughtful people and engineers who make an impact in their workplace. I hope my research continues to spark joy in me and my collaborators, and makes the world a safer place to live, particularly with regards to wildfires, which is one of my key research areas.
What kind of classroom and teaching experience do you look forward to creating at Iowa State?
In general, I want students to be able to speak up, and to form connections with me and others. I’m also looking forward to using AI to improve learning while also modeling and guiding students towards ethical and good practices for AI.
Primary Strategic Research Area
