What makes you most excited to join the Cyclone Engineering community here at Iowa State?
To return to the place that nurtured my growth and development as a PhD student. The excellent community and CELT resources that value and collaborate to make excellent learning experiences for our students.
Describe a moment that makes you particularly proud of your career path in educating tomorrow’s engineers.
Modeling for my students how to give and receive critical feedback to improve the way I teach and the ways they learn.
How do you hope your teaching and/or research discoveries impact the world?
I’m hoping to teach my students how to apply the broad skillset associated with Chemical Engineering with careful consideration for how their work affects not just their company, but their team members, their community, and their environment. I want to inculcate a reflectiveness that helps them think proactively about their own positive and negative impact.
What kind of classroom and teaching experience do you look forward to creating at Iowa State?
I am so excited to continue work that my colleagues and mentors in CBE have started, creating student-centered classrooms using active learning approaches. I want to build a flexible classroom that is able to meet student needs, while helping them develop their technical and soft skills to help them excel in their next steps of their careers.
