About the program

The Leadership through Engineering Academic Diversity (LEAD) program provides services and programming to assist in the success and retention of self-identifying multicultural, international, and women scholars in the College of Engineering and at Iowa State University.

The LEAD program has been recognized by Insight into Diversity with the 2023 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award for being an “exemplary and innovative initiative designed to recruit and retain underrepresented individuals in STEM.”

The LEAD Program aims to enhance the experiences of engineering scholars through unique opportunities focused on academic, professional, and social development and success.

LEAD programs and services strive to increase the number of successful multicultural, international, and women engineering graduates by helping scholars get connected, become leaders, earn higher grades, graduate sooner, and become better prepared for a career as an engineer.


LEAD serves all engineering scholars with an emphasis on those that self-identify as a part of the following communities

  • Women
