Intellectual Property

Partnering with industry to conduct relevant research is a key element of the College of Engineering’s Strategic Plan.  As a public institution, Iowa State is committed to the transfer of innovations from the university to the public to be used for the benefit of society. Usually, the Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc. (ISURF) retains ownership of intellectual property invented or created by Iowa State employees. However, sponsored research contracts can be structured so that a company is assigned the intellectual property that results from the research that it funds.    Intellectual property is managed by the Office of Intellectual Property & Technology Transfer.
