Dr. Brent Shanks

Dr. Brent Shanks is an Anson Marston Distinguished Professor in Engineering and the Mike and Jean Steffenson Chair of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Iowa State University.  He established and serves as Director of the NSF Engineering Research Center for Biorenewable Chemicals (CBiRC).  He received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1988.  From 1988 to 1999 he worked as a Research Engineer and Department Manager in the Catalyst Department at Shell Chemical Company in Houston, Texas.  He joined the faculty at Iowa State University in 1999.

While anecdotal stories exist about careers that were created by a strong vision of the future, most engineers look back on their careers as having a number of unexpected twists and turns. How then does a new engineer create a plan for their future? This program will discuss creating an actionable personal plan with a clear knowledge of an uncertain future.
