Term Paper Abstracts (Fall 2001):Comparison of Biosorbent with Ion exchange and for Heavy Metals Removal in WastewaterTaewoo, Yi ABSTRACT Removal of heavy metals existing in the environment is the most important environmental issue. Though there are many physical and chemical methods to remove heavy metals, these methods are expensive and make additional effects. Because they are effective and safe for the environment, Ion exchange and biosorption of heavy metals is now being researched to remove heavy metals. This paper is written to investigate and compare two different methods, ion exchange and biosorption, for heavy metal removal. The objectives of this paper investigate the mechanisms, selectivity and influence of pH, which the processes employ to remove heavy metals from wastewater and comparison. Ion exchange and biosorption in experiments and results are described in detail. Keywords: Heavy metal, ion exchange, biosorption, and mechanism. |
