My Position |
I am a systems analyst for the College of Engineering at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. I'm a staff member of Engineering Technology Services, sometimes referred to as ENTS. I work on a number of different projects, though usually involved with Linux/UNIX systems administration, file storage, and web servers. I'm especially interested in helping provide tools and software used by engineering students and researchers. > I work with a lot of knowledgable people who work together to keep things running smoothly. |
Personal |
I live in Ames, Iowa, home of Iowa State University. I am married to Dr. Julie Dickerson, Electrical and Computer Engineering at ISU. We have two kids: Stormie and Anthony. |
Where I'm From |
I grew up east of a town called Jamul in San Diego County, California. I'm the only one of my immediate family not living in the San Diego area. Although I really enjoy Ames, Iowa, I do miss the beach. |
Education |
I received a bachelors degree in applied mechanics from UC San Diego in 1983. I started out as an English major with an emphasis in poetry but decided to become an engineer instead. I started working in the computer field right out of school and have more or less been involved in systems administration in engineering environments ever since. I received a certificate in Advanced Software Technology from UC Irvine in 1993 through their extension program. I joined the professional staff here at ISU in April, 1995 after over a dozen years working in the aerospace industry in southern California. Since I've been at ISU, I've earned a master's degree Computer Engineering with an emphasis in Information Assurance (computer security). |
Computer Security | My Master's degree thesis was on Fuzzy Intrusion detection, which applied fuzzy logic to the problem of analysing intrusion activity on networks. My faculty advisor was Dr. James Davis |
