Ductility and Brittleness
nDuctility is measured in % Elongation of test material
n%El =100* (lf – lo)/lo
nlf = length of test specimen at fracture
nlo = original length of test specimen
nIf %El >=5%, material is ductile
nBrittle describes the material if  %El < 5%
nBrittle materials will usually exhibit different strengths in tension and compression
nSuc – ultimate compressive strength
nIf Suc and Sut are not close in value the material is called
nSuc is typically >> Sut
nIf Suc and Sut are close in value  the material is called even
