Sydney, Australia is the capital of the New South Wales state and is one of Australia’s largest cities. Sydney is best known for the Syndey Opera House, Darling Harbour, and Harbour Bridge. Located on the eastern coast of Australia, the city has a population just over 5 million. Although English is the predominant language spoken in Sydney, over 250 languages are spoken within the city. Nearby, students can explore the Blue Mountains, a mountain range located 31 miles west of Sydney.
Selected students for the program will be enrolled in a special section of English 314 for the fall semester. This section will combine in-person and online meetings and assignments. Students will complete a variety of technical communication genres that help students work individually and in teams to develop clear and precise communication – both verbal and visual. The course’s assignments include technical definitions and descriptions, instructions, proposals, and presentations, some geared toward developing facility with international technical communication. Coursework will be taught in English and will be taken for Iowa State credit.
