Interest Areas
Dr. Gemmill’s research and teaching interests include the Systems Engineering process that is used to design complex systems. He also has an interest in applied operations research and the modeling, design, and performance analysis of manufacturing systems utilizing discrete event system simulation. In particular he is interested in the performance of various metaheuristics as applied to optimization of stochastic systems. His interests include developing unique applications of metaheuristics as well as evaluating and improving their performance. Dr. Gemmill directs the Systems Engineering interdisciplinary masters program at Iowa State.
