Can I stack my Kiewit Scholarship with other awards?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yes, it can be combined with other scholarship offers from the college and university. However, the Kiewit Scholarship amount may need to be reduced if the total award package exceeds the yearly cost of attendance at Iowa State by awarding the full amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I keep my scholarship?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To keep your Kiewit Scholarship, you must maintain a minimum 2.7 cumulative fall GPA, a course load of 30 credits or more per year, and regular participation in annual programming focused on the Kiewit Scholars pillars of Leadership, Team Building and Professionalism. Incoming freshmen majoring in Undeclared Engineering must declare one of the eligible majors (Civil, Construction, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering) to be eligible for renewal. Yearly application required by all students in order to renew. Exceptions may be approved by the Kiewit Scholars Program administrative authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I use this scholarship toward summer or winter term classes?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This scholarship only applies to fall and spring semesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Does the Kiewit Scholarship cover online classes?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yes, this scholarship will cover online classes taken during the fall or spring semesters. Engineering is largely an in-person major, but you may take a course or two online while in your degree. For further information, contact Sarah Eastlund, Kiewit Scholars Program Coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I take a gap year and still keep the scholarship?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Students must be continuously enrolled to continue receiving the scholarship. Any student with extenuating circumstances may contact Sarah Eastlund, Kiewit Scholars Program Coordinator for consideration of an exception on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Kiewit Scholars Program leadership team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens to my scholarship if I participate in a cooperative learning experience?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Recipients are not eligible to receive this award during semesters in which they are participating in a cooperative learning experience. Semesters spent on a co-op or internship will not reduce the total years of eligibility for the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I utilize this scholarship for multiple undergraduate degrees?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Kiewit Scholarship requires that students pursue a degree in the designated majors of Civil, Construction, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering. Please contact Sarah Eastlund, Kiewit Scholars Program Coordinator if you wish to pursue multiple degrees while at Iowa State (e.g., a double major outside the College of Engineering).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How many credit hours can I take each semester?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Students in the Kiewit Scholars Program are expected to take at least 30 credits per year and must follow the university\u2019s policy for the maximum number of credits allowed per semester. Students wishing to exceed this limit should contact Sarah Eastlund, Kiewit Scholars Program Coordinator to learn about their options. Exceptions may be approved by the Kiewit Scholars Program administrative authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens if I drop a class or withdraw?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Contact Sarah Eastlund, Kiewit Scholars Program Coordinator if you need to drop a class or withdraw to discuss how it will affect your scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I study abroad?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Students may choose to participate in a Study Abroad experience. Scholars are encouraged to plan for their study abroad experience early and should discuss interest with their academic advisor. The Engineering International Programs<\/a> team is also available for further assistance or more detailed information on available study abroad programs.
