Professional Activity Leave

Iowa State University and the College of Engineering encourage active participation of university personnel in external activities that promote the university’s mission, enhance professional skills, expand knowledge, and/or contribute to public service. At the same time, the college expects all employees to have a formal professional activity leave agreement on file with their home department prior to engaging in such activities.

Please note that the form should only be completed when providing professional consulting services related to an employee’s ISU responsibilities for which he/she will receive financial gain. This could include providing training at professional conferences. It is not necessary for employees to complete the form under the following circumstances; taking vacation to do consulting unrelated to ISU responsibilities, attending a conference for professional development as a participant, or when traveling to perform essential functions of his/her’s ISU position.

Signed agreements should be retained in the requesting employee’s home department.
