Employer Frequently Asked Questions
Simply go to https://cyhire.iastate.edu/employers and click ‘Sign Up’. Please use your individual email address associated with your company.
Thousands of engineering students and alumni use CyHire to research employers, search for positions, and view upcoming event info. This system allows you to manage all campus recruiting activities.
To post a position, log into CyHire and go to ‘Job Postings’ under the ‘Jobs’ section. Click the ‘Post a Job’ button then simply fill out the form and click ‘Submit’. Your posting will be reviewed as soon as possible, and you will be notified when it is approved. This is completely free!
Log into your CyHire account and click on ‘Schedules’ in the On-Campus Interviewing section. Then simply click on the ‘Request a Schedule’ button and fill out the form. (Note: most employers choose ‘Preselect’ as the model. This allows you to collect resumes and then choose who you want to interview).
On-campus interviews are a great way to increase your recruiting success and brand awareness on campus! On-campus interviews do not have any associated fees, except for the day after our career fairs.
Log into your CyHire account and click on ‘Information Sessions’ in the Events section. Then simply click on the ‘Request Information Session’ button and fill out the form. If you would like us to reserve a classroom for you, please enter ‘TBD’ for the location.
Please note that information sessions must be posted in CyHire for EEOC purposes, and attendance will likely be better since CyHire is the primary source of career information at ISU. See the Information Sessions page for further details.
To register for a career fair, log into your CyHire account and click on ‘Career Fairs’ in the Events section. Click on the fair you would like to register for, and fill out the form. Your submission will typically be reviewed within 1-2 business days, and you will receive a confirmation email with logistical details once it has been approved.
Details regarding upcoming career fairs can be found here: https://www.engineering.iastate.edu/ecs/employers/career-fair/
Employing a student in a co-op or internship position is not much different than hiring a part-time or temporary employee. A little additional effort needs to go into identifying tasks that relate to the student’s major and providing him or her with opportunities to build engineering skills. The student will need this information and a written offer of employment in order to register his or her co-op/internship, but otherwise, the student handles all of the paperwork. The benefits are plentiful and range from simply getting some extra work completed to improving full-time recruiting success. Please see our Experiential Education Employer Reference Guide for more information.
Each individual using CyHire needs to register for their own account (please see the first FAQ for instructions). If your personal email address has changed, simply email cyhire@iastate.edu and we can make that change for you.
The College of Engineering makes limited use of resume books. We do provide a resume book of graduating seniors and alumni looking for full-time employment approximately half-way through the semester. These are made available to employers that have full-time engineering positions posted in CyHire.
There are a number of variables that can affect student interest in a job posting. This is often due to the requirements (e.g., high GPA) or lack of details in the position description (e.g., specific engineering majors you will consider, detailed description of responsibilities/tasks). Consider lowering your GPA requirement or adding additional majors. If you make changes to broaden the scope of qualified applicants, we will send an email to qualified students to inform them of the change. Please also double-check the accuracy of any external links provided in the job posting form.
Additionally, name recognition and convenience for students are very important. Participating in on-campus events such as interviewing, information sessions, and career fairs can be very beneficial in generating interest in your position(s).
If you would like ECS to review your posting or provide additional tips, please contact us: ecs@iastate.edu or 515-294-2540.
Posting positions in CyHire, conducting on-campus interviews, hiring interns, and participating in on-campus events such as career fairs and information sessions are the best ways to connect with students. An overview of these recruiting activities is provided on our Hiring ISU Engineers handout.
If you are already participating in these activities and would like further information on how to be involved at ISU, please see ‘Additional Ways to Engage with Students’.
