Scholarship Criteria

About

The E2020 Scholars Program in the College of Engineering at Iowa State University used one-time funding from the National Science Foundation to provide scholarships for three entering cohorts from 2009 through 2011. Scholarships are no longer available for entering students. Applications are not available or accepted.

Criteria

E2020 Scholars were selected by members of the E2020 Scholars Program and faculty. Approximately 24 award recipients were selected each year from among both first-year and transfer students who were U.S. citizens and had been accepted for admission to Iowa State’s College of Engineering.

Additional E2020 Scholar selection criteria included:

  • Demonstrated financial need as determined by filing the FAFSA.
  • Completion of an online application that included personal information, academic information, activities, responses to two essay questions, and contact information for three references.
  • Demonstration of the potential to succeed. Demonstrated academic ability included the following:

o   First-year students

  • 3.00 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Top 30% class rank
  • ACT sub-scores for Math—24 or higher/SAT 1 math above 560.

o   Transfer Students

  • 24 transferrable hours or meet first-year student criteria above
  • 3.00 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Students who demonstrated potential in ways that went beyond GPA, class ranking, or test scores could apply by completing the extenuating circumstances question on the application form.
