This charcoal drawing is a portrait drawing of my physics teacher two years ago. He is a solemn but very kind person, I’m not good at physics but it doesn’t stop us becoming friends.
At that time I saw the painting “American Gothic” from Grant Wood in Art Institute of Chicago, which is one of the most familiar images in 20th century American art and one of the most parodied artworks within American popular culture. It inspired me to draw my teacher since I felt something similar from him and the man in the painting, even though they had different background and they were from different times.
Since I was inspired from the painting, Mr. Z from this drawing doesn’t look exactly the same as him in real. But I got my respect in the portrait.
