Derek Buman

Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering

Derek is from Portsmouth, Iowa. He is a 2008 Engineering Leadership Program Scholar and active in campus activities. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Derek plans on working for a company that will allow him to design and test agricultural equipment, and he may return to school and obtain a master’s degree.

 

Matthew Burmeister

Mechanical Engineering

Mathew is from Davenport, Iowa. He is in the University Honors Program and active in the Engineering Ambassador and Mentor Program, where he is the Tour Scheduling Chair. He is also Vice President of the Kiwanis international Circle K club which has as its objective to help people to have a better live, provide opportunity for people to serve others and provide leadership skills for everybody.

Amy Buttolph

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering

Amy is from Ankeny, Iowa. After completing her degree she plans to work as an Industrial Engineering and may return to school to obtain a MBA.

Malinda Caudle

Materials Science and Engineering

Mandy is from Omaha, Nebraska. In addition to pursuing a degree in engineering she is a member of the ISU Varsity swimming team. She is currently researching new metals and hopes to someday engineer products that can positively impact people throughout the world.

Eric Cheatham

Electrical and Computer Engineering

Eric is from Newport News, Virginia and is majoring in Computer Engineering. He enjoys electronic gaming, playing guitar, running, weight lifting, and working with gaming servers. He is Membership Chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Student Branch and hopes to become involved with a student government, such as ESC and GSB. After receiving his bachelor’s degree Eric wants to work for a defense contractor or go into Officer Training School for the Air Force.

Michael Eidem

Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

Michael is from Excelsior, Minnesota and majoring in Civil Engineering. He is in the University Honors Program and a member of Engineers Without Borders and worked with a team in Mali during the summer of 2009. He plans to pursue a MBA concurrent with his engineering degree and after graduation hopes to work as a structural civil engineer.

Clark Ennis

Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

Clark is from Ames, Iowa and majoring in Civil Engineering. He has traveled to Uganda and hopes to pursue an international career after graduation helping to improve the rural infrastructure in developing countries.

Alex Feygin

Aerospace Engineering

Alex is from Waukee, Iowa, but was born in Kharkov, Ukraine, where his farther worked as a System Engineer, and has also lived in Chicago. He plans to participate in coop and internship programs while a student and hopes to be able to study abroad at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Following graduation he would like to work in research and development in the aerospace industry.

Eric Forbes

Mechanical Engineering

Eric is from Park Ridge, Illinois. In addition to pursuing a degree in engineering he is a member of the ISU Varsity Track Team. He plans to undertake internships while a student and work in industry following graduation.

Meredith Gibson

Chemical and Biological Engineering

Meredith is from Austin, Texas. She is a 2008 Engineering Leadership Program Scholar and active in campus activities. She is interested in environmental policy especially in the areas of groundwater and freshwater issues. After graduation, Meredith hopes to attend graduate school and work with environmental policy, either in the United States or in a developing country. Meredith is the first Iowa Alpha Scholar to reach Junior status and become eligible for Tau Beta Pi membership. She was inducted as a member of the Iowa Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi in December 2009.

Katarina Mitchell

Electrical and Computer Engineering

Katarina is from Muscatine, Iowa. She is majoring in Computer Engineering and is active in the Engineering Ambassador and Mentor Program.

Nicole Nelson

Aerospace Engineering

Nicole is from Farmington, Minnesota. She is active in the Engineering Ambassador and Mentor Program and is the Campus Relations Chair of the Society of Women Engineers. In addition to her Aerospace Engineering major, she hopes to minor in Nuclear Engineering. Following graduation she would like to work for NASA, specializing in propulsion systems.

Vania Romay

Chemical and Biological Engineering

Vania is from Vadnais Heights, Minnesota. She is a Carver Scholar and member of the University Honors Program. She is active in the Engineering Ambassador and Mentor Program and is the Elementary/Preschool Outreach Chair of the Society of Women Engineers.

Md Sakib

Electrical and Computer Engineering

Sakib is from Dhaka, Bangladesh. He participated in the University Freshman Honors Program and the Honors Mentoring Program. He was a Cluster Facilitator for the University Studies introductory leadership course for first-year and second-year students. He is working with Dr. Alexander Stoytchev, in the Developmental Robotics Laboratory doing research related to developmental robotics, autonomous robotics and artificial intelligence. Following graduation he plans to continue graduate studies.

Alexandra Skora

Engineering Undeclared

Alexandra is from Egan, Minnesota. She is a member of the University Honors Program. In addition to her major in Materials Engineering she plans to minor in bioengineering. She is a member of the ISU Marching Band, Concert Band and the Iowa State Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, the National Honorary Band Sorority. Following graduation she hopes to work for a medical technology company and undertake graduate studies in biomedical engineering.

John Solomon

Materials Science and Engineering

John is from Boone, Iowa. . He is in the University Honors Program and is President of the Iowa State University Freshmen Leaders in Engineering. His other interests include running, building furniture and playing guitar. He plans to participate in a joint bachelors and master degree program and has as a long term goal working for NASA.

Rachel Steingas

Mechanical Engineering

Rachel is from Woodbury, Minnesota. She is a active member of the Program for Women in Science and Engineering serving as a Student Role Model presenting math, science and technology activities to elementary and high schools students throughout Iowa. She is also an Ambassador in the Program for Women in Science and Engineering meeting with prospective students and give a student’s perspective of what its like to be in the program. She is a member of Cantamus, the all women’s vocal ensemble of the Iowa State University Women’s Choir. She has participated in the John Deere summer interns program. Following graduation She hopes to pursue an master degree in engineering or an MBA.

Maria Wahl

Chemical and Biological Engineering

Maria is from Clear Lake, Iowa. While many of her family members have attended Iowa State, she is the first to major in engineering. Following graduation she hopes to pursue a career in some area of food science.

Holly Walker

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering

Holly is from Colo, Iowa. In addition to her academic studies she is President of Errington House, her residence group. She is an Ambassador for the IMSE department and on the IMSE Advisory Board. Following graduation she hopes to pursue a career that will allow her to be an innovator and help improve conditions of people throughout the world.

Michelle Wallace

Chemical and Biological Engineering

Michelle is from Johnston, Iowa. She is a member of the University Honors Program. She is Vice President of the Iowa State University Freshman Council and President of the ISU Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma the National Freshman Honor Societies. She is also Vice President of Events for the Engineering Student Council. She hopes to able to take advantage of the College of Engineering internship and study abroad programs.

Katelyn Weiler

Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

Katelyn is from Pella, Iowa. She is a member of the University Honors Program. She is in the Program for Providing Experiences in Research for Undergraduate Students in Engineering (PERUSE), working in the Center for Transportation Research and Education, where she analyzes vehicular crashes that have occurred in Iowa. Katelyn also assists the Solar Decathlon team and is the Public Relations/ Recruitment Chair of the ISU Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. After graduation she hopes to design structures that both improve efficiency and create an aesthetically pleasing surrounding, and to one day have her own architectural and engineering company.

Kyle Willis

Aerospace Engineering

Kyle is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. He is a member of the University Honors Program. He is Treasurer of AirISU, the student organization that has as its purpose to construct and fly a Light Sport Aircraft. He plans to undertake internships and participate in the Study Abroad program. After graduation he hopes to work in the field of aircraft propulsion.

Ryan Willis

Mechanical Engineering

Ryan is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. He is a member of the University Honors Program. He is Secretary of the ISU Chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He hopes to be able to undertake undergraduate research as well as participate in the College of Engineering Study Abroad and internship programs. Following graduation he plans to work in the area of energy generation working with new types of energy.

Christopher Wolf
