Providing Experiences in Research for Undergraduate Students in Engineering (PERUSE)

Welcome to PERUSE, Providing Experiences in Research for Undergraduate Students in Engineering.

What is it?

This website is intended to open the door to Iowa State engineering faculty and students to collaborate in research.  During the 2008-2009 academic year over 300 student referrals were made to faculty through the PERUSE program.

Why is it important?

The National Science Foundation states in their strategic plan that “Effective integration of research and education at all levels infuses learning with the excitement of discovery and assures that the findings and methods of research are quickly and effectively communicated in a broader context and to a larger audience.” (Page 22 NSF Strategic Plan FY 2003-2008)

Students who engage in research learn to apply what they know, develop new skills, and contribute to on-going research.  These research experiences can also inform career choices students will make.

Iowa State engineering faculty deeply value undergraduate research and seek to review credentials of undergraduate students who desire to work in on-campus research initiatives.  PERUSE facilitates the referral of interested students to faculty seeking student research employees.
