This website is intended to open the door to Iowa State engineering faculty and students seeking to collaborate in research.

The Iowa State University College of Engineering is evolving into a national and international destination of choice for

• discipline leading research that addresses the most critical of society’s problems
• producing the next generation of technical leadership

An important component of achieving this stature is the opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in research. The National Science Foundation states in their strategic plan that “Effective integration of research and education at all levels infuses learning with the excitement of discovery and assures that the findings and methods of research are quickly and effectively communicated in a broader context and to a larger audience.”
 
Iowa State engineering faculty deeply value undergraduate research, as indicated by a November 2007 survey of engineering faculty in which 75 percent of the respondents currently pay undergraduate researchers to assist in their research labs. The majority of faculty without students working in their labs indicated a desire to hire student research assistants in the near future.
