Tom Brumm, associate professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering (ABE), has been named director of assessment for the College of Engineering effective August 16. In this role, Brumm will lead and facilitate college-level activities to promote and assess student learning.

“This position reflects the commitment by the College of Engineering to its education mission and to excellence in learning and teaching,” said Diane Rover, associate dean for academic and student affairs and professor of electrical and computer engineering. “In this role, Professor Brumm will work with faculty and staff to leverage best practices, joint activities, and resources focusing on a common mission of helping our students to be successful.”

The director’s responsibilities also include chairing the student learning task force and working with the associate and assistant deans to coordinate accreditation activities for the college’s academic programs.

Brumm replaces Steve Mickelson, ABE associate professor, who is now director of Iowa State’s Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.
