Iowa State researchers look for smaller, cheaper, one-dose vaccines

An interdisciplinary research team from the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine and Engineering is investigating a new method of vaccine delivery. Led by Michael Wannemuehler from veterinary medicine, the team includes Balaji Narasimhan, professor of chemical and biological engineering and associate dean for research and economic development for the College of Engineering, as well as F. Chris Minion from veterinary medicine. Narasimhan’s work with polymers, both to enhance the immune response and to transport antigens, supports the team’s research into creating vaccines available to more people due to dosage, cost, and size.
