Dean Mark J. Kushner has announced the appointment of Professor Derrick Rollins as assistant dean for diversity for the College of Engineering. In this role, Rollins will coordinate, advance, and expand diversity activities at both student and faculty levels. He will also work towards raising the national visibility of the College as a destination of choice for diverse students, faculty, and staff. The appointment became effective on January 2.
Rollins joined the Iowa State faculty in 1990, accepting a unique joint appointment between the statistics department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Department of Chemical Engineering, now the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE). He will retain joint appointments in statistics and CBE while he fills his half-time appointment as Assistant Dean.
Nancy Knight, whose duties had included diversity responsibilities, has served since summer as director, graduate enrollment management. Knight has worked with current and prospective college students for more than 20 years; she has been with the College of Engineering since 1997. She is a national leader in the graduate admissions field, currently serving as chair for the Research and National Issues Committee of the Board of Governors for the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals.
The recipient of five Iowa State P&S Recruitment and Retention grants, Knight has previously served as the assistant director for New Student Programs at Drake University, in positions in Student Financial Aid at Iowa State University, and as a meeting manager for an Ames-based international association.
