The process for recruiting students for employment primarily involves the four activities listed below.  These services are offered to all employers seeking to fill engineering-related, professional positions (post-graduation, co-ops, and internships).  With the exception of the career fairs, there is no cost to the employers.

All students at ISU have access to CyHire, and alumni can request free access.  The Department of Labor requires that all employment opportunities be posted in the system to help ensure equal employment opportunity compliance.  Once an employer has posted a position in CyHire, they can work with faculty, staff and student organizations to further spread the word about the position.  CyHire should be the student’s primary source of employment information since it is comprehensive, and employers that post opportunities on CyHire are particularly interested in hiring an ISU engineer.  If an employer informs you of an employment opportunity, please forward this information to Engineering Career Services (ecs@iastate.edu) and we will work with the employer to get the position posted.

The College of Engineering hosts career fairs each semester with over 100s of employers participating. The fall career fairs are held in mid-September and the spring career fairs are held in early February. Thousands of interviews are conducted as a result of connections made at each career fair.

Information sessions typically involve a 20 to 40 minute presentation by a company representative followed by a Q & A period. Information sessions provide opportunities to learn about a potential employer and network in an informal setting.  Employers can hold their information session on any date during the semester, and Engineering Career Services will help them to reserve a classroom or auditorium in an engineering building after 4:00PM.

Each year, over 4,000 on-campus interviews are conducted by visiting employers.  On the days following the career fairs,  1,200 to 1,500 interviews take place in a single day.  In addition to these mass interview events, the College has a number of meeting rooms that employers can reserve any day of the week at no cost.
